List post template for SEO articles
The list post is the workhorse of the long tail: the reader arrives with one question and gets N concrete answers. Its SEO strength is structure — each list item is a candidate answer to a variant of the same query, and the headings make that legible to a machine.
What it is best for
Informational queries with many possible answers: 'ways to…', 'reasons…', 'tools for…', 'questions to ask…'.
The structure, section by section
Title that states the number and the value
Name the list size and what the reader gains from it. The number makes the scope a promise.
Intro that states who it is for
Three sentences: the problem, who has it, and how the list is ordered (best first, cheapest first, most common first).
One item per answer
Each item is one H2: the answer as the heading, then the explanation, then the reason it matters. No merged items.
A per-item takeaway
End each item with the one sentence a reader could repeat to a colleague.
Closing that names the next step
Point to the natural follow-up: the comparison post, the guide, or the tool that does the work.
Three things that make it work
- Order the list by the reader's criteria, and say in the intro what the order is.
- Keep each item self-contained: readers land on a heading, not on the top of the page.
- Do not pad to a round number; a list of seven real answers beats eight with filler.
